Rare white poppy seeds with a delicious nutty flavour. Many breadseed poppy heads have small vents that open when the seed is ripe scattering the seed to the wind. Sokol has no vents making seed collection easy. Just break open the seed head and pour the tasty seed out for use in baking, noodles, bread or any recipe requiring a nutty flavour. Beautiful white and pink flowers top 1 m. plants and are followed by large decorative seed pods. Will self-seed readily if you don't eat all your seed. A farm favourite with oatmeal on chilly winter mornings.

Papavare somniferum

Days to maturity: 80-90

Bloom type: Annual

Direct seed poppies in late fall or early spring. Sprinkle seed lightly on the soil surface and cover with .6 cm of soil as they require darkness to germinate. Firm soil. Poppies do not transplant well so indoor seeding is not recommended. Thin to 15 cm apart when first true leaves appear to give plants room to develop. Allow seed pods to dry on the plant then cut and place upside down in a paper bag to collect the seeds. Dry seeds and store in a glass jar.
