Columbine - Wild
Aquilegia canadensis. A beautiful Ontario native that blooms in early spring. Nodding orangey-red flowers with yellow tips are adapted to long-tongued nectar feeders such as hawk moths and hummingbirds. Bees collect pollen. Prefers light shade but will tolerate sun if daytime temperature is not too hot. Columbine is a short-lived perennial but will seed itself freely if happy. Cold moist stratification will improve germination. Hardy to USDA zone 2.
