Bronze Leaf Fennel
Bronze Leaf Fennel
Foliage emerges coppery-red and turns bronze as it matures. The feathery, anise flavoured leaves are excellent in salads as are the flower buds and stems. Very ornamental in the garden or in the vase and a magnet for pollinators. Perfect for showy kitchen gardens. For a long time fennel was grown as an annual in Canada only wintering reliably on the west coast and sometimes in southern Ontario. More recently we are finding that it often winters over in zone 5 and 6 but not reliably. Most Canadian gardeners have success growing it as an annual.
Foeniculum vulgare
