Watermelon
Start indoors 4 weeks before your frost free date. Sow seeds .6 cm deep in 5-10 cm cells or pots and keep temperatures between 27 and 32 degrees C. Thin to one plant per pot and keep warm and moist. Harden plants off by exposing them to outdoor conditions a few hours at a time for 3 or 4 days before planting outside into rich soil. Keep soil moist until fruits set then allow the soil to stay on the dry side. Fruit is ready to harvest when the tendril on the vine nearest the fruit stem is browning or dead, the ground spot turns from white to yellow and a gentle thump on the fruit sounds hollow.
