Gourds
Plant indoors 2-3 weeks before your last frost date or direct seed outdoors once the soil has warmed to 21 degrees Celsius. Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep. Sow 2-3 seeds 30 cm apart and thin to the strongest seedling. Space rows 2-3 m. apart Provide plants with lots of compost for strong healthy growth. To provide extra heat early in the season cover the young plants with floating row cover until they start to flower then remove cloth so pollination can occur. To dry gourds leave in an unheated garage or porch over the winter and they will be ready to use in spring.
