Lofthouse Landrace Moschata
Lofthouse Landrace Moschata
We are very excited to be offering this genetically diverse landrace population of winter squash developed by Joseph Lofthouse. Butternut squash is a variety of Cucurbita moschata and ripens too late for many gardeners. This landrace population is the result of allowing a large planting of many different varieties of Cucurbita moschata to grow together and cross pollinate. Seed was saved from those that ripened early and had dry, dark orange (nutritious) flesh. There are all kinds of shapes and sizes and most of them ripen to that butternut tan colour. They all taste great and ripen early. We think this is a squash for the future. A squash that has a broad genetic base that will be able to respond to climatic pressure. Try it. We think you’ll fall in love with it like we have.
