Lil Red N Black

This dwarf cherry tomato is as tasty as it is beautiful.  We are excited to offer this red and black cherry tomato bred by Vita Gaike and Duane Falk of Mimosa Breeding And Research near Hillsburgh, Ontario.  We first tasted this delightful little tomato while visiting a variety demonstration garden at Fertile Ground Farm and were very impressed with the balance of sweetness and classic tomato taste.  Not only is the colour outstanding in the garden, it also provides a big serving of antioxidants on the plate.  The plump fruit store very well and are often served with Christmas dinner from a late October harvest.  The early-bearing  dwarf plants are very productive and do well in the garden where it can be grown on a mulch as a branching, field tomato, or pruned and staked where the sturdy, indeterminate vine continues grow and to produce fruit until frost.  This robust variety was selected from a cross of an Indigo-type with a dwarf red cherry, with emphasis on ease of management, flavour, and productivity.  It is resistant to late blight and most other common tomato diseases.  These stout, vigourous, leafy plants are also excellent when grown in containers on a balcony, or even indoors over winter in a sunny south window.
