This Hungarian heirloom is valued for its sweet, full flavour and excellent keeping quality. It was grown commercially in the region around Mako for over 100 years but recently production has dropped dramatically so our friends Jennifer and Carl picked up some seed while travelling in the area and gave some to us. We were impressed with the rock-hard bulbs and their incredible storability. Strong, upright plants have golden skins, sturdy necks and good resistance to splitting and disease. We are excited to be able to offer this historic onion.
