Valencia Peanut
Yes peanuts! If you have a 110 day growing season you can grow your own crop of peanuts in the ground or in a container. Peanuts are not a true nut but are legumes related to the bean family and they are really fun plants to grow. The bright yellow flowers appear on the plants in mid-June to early July. Once pollinated the flower falls off and a long thin shoot called a peg grows from the flower down to the base of the plant where it pushes into the soil and forms a peanut. Wow. Flowers above ground, fruits below! Lift the plants in the fall and dry the peanuts in the shell. We are offering Valencia peanuts which ripen in 95-110 days and have a delicious sweet peanut flavour. They are great raw or roasted and for a real treat try boiling them in water, beer or bourbon.
Your peanuts will be sent to you in the shell to protect the seeds from damage. Keep them in the shell until you are ready to sow.
