Growing Instructions

When to Sow:

Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost or sow outdoors in fall for
natural cold stratification.

How to Sow:

Scatter seeds thinly on the soil surface and press gently—do not cover, as
light aids germination. Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge.

Germination:

14–21 days in cool conditions.

Thinning & Spacing:

Thin seedlings to 12–18" apart for strong growth and airflow.

Growing Conditions:

Prefers full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. Drought tolerant once
established.

Care:

Low maintenance. Cut flower spikes for bouquets or let seed pods mature for
natural reseeding.

Arctic Summer Mullein is a captivating biennial or short-lived perennial loved for its tall, sculptural flower spikes that add vertical drama to the garden as well as its soft, silvery-green foliage. Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are drawn to the cheery yellow flowers and each morning the patch is a-buzz with activity. Native to mountainous regions in northern Europe it is hardy in cool, short season gardens. Thrives in poor (not too fertile) soils in full sun. Great in scree and rock gardens. Deer resistant.
